MEAT! POSTER! (LOTS OF ALL-CAPS!)
Last year I was taking a poster design class at RISD with the über talented and sweet Nancy Skolos of Skolos-Wedell . The class visited a poster museum/shop in Boston, and I JUST ABOUT DIED (no, really, I honestly almost fainted) when I saw this poster, apparently advertising meat. I know it doesn’t look like much as a lil’ JPG on the internet, but MY GOD it is gorgeous in its large scale, full color glory! I can’t explain it, but I love LOVE the look of illustrated meat, and this poster is by far the most beautiful I have ever seen. It’s not like I want to eat it… but… augh!! I don’t know why I love it so much!! The colors are super saturated yet delicately detailed. Its hyper realistic, but sooo totally fake looking. I am trying to explain it but, still to this day I can’t do it justice. I was speechless then, am speechless now.

So, I lost my mind over this gigantic, oddly beautiful poster and I quietly panicked, texting Nick: “we MUST BUY it! I HAVE TO HAVE IT!!!!”. but alas, I was a poor student and the poster was far outside of my budget. Instead, Nancy bought the poster. My heart broke that day as she arranged to pick it up a few days later. But, I know she loved it too and it is in a good home. At least I can visit it at Nancy’s house, also a masterpiece, if I find myself both in providence, and needing a meat-poster fix.
Turns out the poster was actually made to sell cutting boards (or something like that), and it was done by Herbert Leupin, who I now also totally love. I bring all this up right now because the folks over at Graphic Hug have a great post about him today, showcasing plenty of this other pieces. I can’t say I love them all as much as this one, but they guy was oh so SO talented, everyone should go check out the post here.
I’ll stop freaking out now. sorry.
